Meryl Streep got a lot of things wrong in her speech at the Golden Globes. For instance, equating hollywood immigrants with illegal aliens was a nice piece of marketing on her part. Without these foreigners hollywood would shut down, or something to that effect. She deftly co-opted people who may not have even wanted to be a part of that little pep rally before slamming Trump.
Not sure how to take her listing hollywood foreigners.... Are all of Hollywood's foreign workers illegal aliens? Obviously not. It was slick of her to do it that way. Note how the cameramen were on point to find the people she mentioned. She directed a Hollywood production for sure. That folks is classic strawman debate strategy.
Strawman in Debate: an intentionally misrepresented proposition (Hollywood's legal immigrants) that is set up because it is easier to defeat than an opponent's real (illegal immigration) argument.
And that was stupid because her core message was spot on. Her ego and need to be center stage to deliver her point corroded her message.The message we heard was: People with power have a responsibility to those without it. Spiderman e=knows the message all to well.
Streep would have served her cause better if she had just played what Trump actually did that day a year ago. Because he was truly a jackass.
He may be able to say. "I wasn't referring to his disability when I said it. I was merely showing his lack of mental acuity through physical displays of poor coordination. " - yeah, right. Watch and decide for yourself.
Whatever Donald says to explain his idiotic behavior that night, the conclusion is he is probably driven by unconscious impulses more than most of us. We've said it many times, Donald Trump is theoutsider who wants to be inside. He is the Howard Stern of Politics/ Finance. And his M.O. is to mock the club that wont let him in, only to embrace it when they open the doors.
Thankfully, the markets take this guy at his word and will continue to provide trading opportunities based on his tweets for heaven sake. Idiocracy indeed.
As for Streep; her production stunt is exactly why the shrinking and demoralized middle class will vote for a guy like Trump. Thus, Trump Nuts will see exactly that while the Clinton crowd will see what they want. There are plenty of bitter liberal clingers out there, wearing Che shirts and dread locks. A gernaration of left behind liberals waiting for their ideology to save them from their own disappointments. They voted for Clinton 1, Obama, and Clinton 2. Goodluck with that.
Its a show folks. There is only one party now The Haves. The other party, The Have Nots are the public, only relevant at vote time, and only to the extent that they cannot be manipulated.
To our trader friends, the Have Nots are the poor saps long straddles at expiry. The Haves will be pinning the strike every month they can.
