Well the Juggernaut that is the Trump Campaign continues to steamroll its way through America and it could be only a matter of time before he become the leader of the free world. I’m surprised that I managed to get that last part out without my computer spontaneously exploding. But is a Trump presidency a major surprise? Not for Simpsons’ fans. And if the long-running cartoon proves to be accurate the results could be disastrous. Making its way through cyber space, as I type, is a forgotten Simpson’s episode from March 2000. I suggest you watch the imbedded clip but in case you can’t my brief synopsis is below.
In the episode the Simpson family visits an Indian casino and Bart get a glimpse of his future in 2030. While he is a deadbeat adult in a band, Lisa is the President of the United States, coming to power after Trump. Her first order of business is to deal with a bankrupt nation. But what would you expect from a guy who has as many failed ideas as he has – just pass the Trump steaks. Yep the Simpson’s called it 16 years ago, Trump wins the election and destroys the nation. It is inevitable; there is nothing to do now but sit back and watch the impending train wreck. Okay it’s no secret that I think Trump would be a terrible President. At the very least he will be ineffective in “Making American Great Again” as his protectionist policies will ultimately prove impossible. But now we have to worry about his impact on world peace. His latest add, target against Hillary Clinton invokes an “us against them” – Russia and ISIS – mentality. The less than subtle hint is that Trump thinks that he would be the great leader to stand up to these threats.
This "great" leader has done thing but stoke hatred for any minority group and now he is doing it on a global scale. He figures if you aren’t old and white you should be deported or not let into the country. He has insulted women, African Americans, Muslims and now we can add Chinese and Russians to that list. It appears that China is tired of being Trump’s evil villain and printed a scathing editorial in a state run newspaper. In the piece the Chinese government says Trump’s comments are: “abusively racist and extremist." It goes on to call him a “big-mouth” and a “clown.” Okay I’m not a communist (but I predict that I will be called one in the comments below), and I don’t have a lot of love for China because of its well documented human rights abuses but I think we need to take notice of what some of these leaders are saying. Do we really want a President that will propel us into another world war, this time with potentially nuclear consequences? Trump is on record saying that he things America should continue to torture people and that water-boarding is not extreme enough. He supports the idea of sending in ground forces to combat ISIS. Yeah that would work well just ask Bush how his Iraq invasion went. How many WMDs did U.S. forces find? As a president you can’t just bully people to get what you want. Politics isn’t about who is the loudest person in the room. It is about making compromises. We don’t need someone who is only in it to fulfill some super egotistical need.
