RIP Gawker

Yup, it's true. After almost fourteen years as a popular celebrity news website, Gawker.com is shutting down next week.

As reported on the company’s site just a few minutes ago,  “The decision to close Gawker comes days after Univision successfully bid $135 million for Gawker Media’s six other websites, and four months after the Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel revealed his clandestine legal campaign against the company.”

Bankruptcy court in Manhattan will decide whether to approve Univision’s bid, the post continued. “The near-term plans for Gawker.com’s coverage, as well as the site’s archives, have not yet been finalized.”

Launched in 2003, the site has broken some of the most controversial celebrity news and has had to deal with its fair share of lawsuits. In June, the company announced it was filing for bankruptcy after famed wrestler Hulk Hogan sued the company for releasing his sex tape.

I bid thee adieu, Gawker. Sorry. Not Sorry.

Here’s a list of controversies linked to Gawker (thanks Wiki!):
