Internet: We all need it, but only 47% of us have it

I don’t know about you but I spend most of my day in front of a computer or phone screen, browsing the internet.

But, according to recent estimates, the World Wide Web may not be as ‘worldly’ as we think.

According to the International Telecommunications Union, a United Nations agency, only about 47% of the world’s population uses the internet. With a current world population of roughly 7.4 billion, about 3.48 billion don’t have access to the Internet.

As Statista put it, “While internet access in regions such as North America and Europe has become a commodity not unlike electricity and running water, people in less developed regions often still lack access to what has arguably become the most important source of information of our times.”

Did you know? ….On August 23, 1991, a British computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee made the World Wide Web available to the public. That means, the Internet just turned 25.
