“Walk Away” - Joe Walsh 1971 Remastered Live

Here is Joe Walsh in the early “undiluted” James Gang playing Walk Away live on the Beat Club show in 1971. Complete with intro by a woman whose hair is a time piece.

Thanks to the poster for this excellent remastering. Giving a like would be kind if you enjoy the piece.

It’s hard to imagine a power trio that compares using this one song as a standard by which all can be measured.

Some Joe Walsh Trivia

Joe is partly responsible for Led Zeppelin’s sound starting with their second album.

Joe, still relatively unknown but respected among musicians positively harassed Jimmy Page to get a Gibson Les Paul as his main guitar. Page, who used a fender tele as his main axe wasn’t moved at first. Besides he had a Gibson black beauty which had 3 humbucker pickups to the Les Paul’s 2. You can see Page use it on the RAH encores in 1971

Eventually, Page gave in and behold the juggernaut “Brown Bomber” album is where Page uses the Les Paul almost exclusively. Well known tracks from that album are Whole Lotta Love and Heartbreaker to name 2.

The tele would gather dust after this until it was

brought out (with his Supro amp?) for Stairway’s solo and later on for other solos. Eventually, the tele morphed into a B-Bender and made its way back during the very end of Zep and for a while thereafter.

But it was Joe Walsh who simply berated Page until he got one. Rumor has it Page was given (or bought) Walsh’s own guitar in the end.

Best guess: Walsh had it refinished and didn’t like how it felt afterwards. So he got Page to buy it from him. But Page still acknowledges “Joe was right” in the recommendation.

Walsh was the one who recommended the guitar and amp setup that Pete Townsend used.

Pete plays several Gibson Les Pauls live.

A

He numbers them as well. It was Walsh who recommended the guitar and amp configuration Pete used live. Fans of The Who know the  solid body les Paul wasn’t his main axe in the studio.

There you have it. Comments and observations welcome.
