Is Ron Paul Really Promoting Secession?

Ron Paul, rather than shrinking into the background is even more pronounced in his condemnation of power over rights than ever before. To some he may seem unpatriotic, even unhinged. To our point, and the reason for our title: Here is the intro on his latest piece.

But can you afford to ignore these ideas when they are happening in real time in Catalonia 

To us, the Catalonian issue is decades old going back to the Spanish revolution. In a slightly wider context, Catalonia autonomy is a slice of a failed experiment in creating the EU. 

The EU pretense of being a union is a canard. Without fiscal unity it will slowly disintegrate, not unlike the Carolingian empire. Pieces that can sustain themselves will break off if they can. Ron Paul is talking about here is different and we do not agree. Secession is not parallel with what is going on in Spain. 

More acurately, Catalonia has anarchist roots. It seeks to be an autarky, where there is higher organization but power is justified at the level needed. 

Unlike the EU where taxes can’t be applied from Germans to help Italian earthquake victims, the US has fiscal unity. 

It is not secession. Catalonia already has “autonomy”.
