Fund Activity: Canadian Regulators Miss Mortgage Mess

Big Money Hedge Fund Activity

As we recently noted, multi-manager hedge funds are resurgent, even if they didn’t quite place on the list of top performers for 2017. This week we took a deeper look at one of them, Sol Kumin. The former SAC COO is using an Asia strategy to spur a revival with money from Schonfeld—and hopefully new outsiders: Folger Hill raises fresh cash for burgeoning Asia investment unit

An unfortunate counterpoint to Kumin is Neil Chriss, who announced today he was shutting down Hutchin Hill. He initially had all the right moves – backing from RenTech legend Jim Simons, a quant pedigree from Goldman and SAC and innovative fee structures. The firm raised billions after launching in 2007 but more recently struggled to maintain decent numbers. As Chriss put it, “we fought hard, but did not deliver the performance that you expected.” Details: Hutchin Hill shuts down after three bad years
