Media Rumors Suggest Trump To Name Mike Pence As VP Running Mate

UPDATE: In anticipation of the official announcement, media agencies are reporting that Mike Pence has dropped his reelection campaign for Governor of Indiana. Updated information following the initial reports continues to suggest and confirm the rumors that Pence will be Donald Trump's vice-presidential pick; however agencies are still quoting “unnamed sources” and nothing official has been released from the Trump campaign.

 

Presumptive Republican Candidate Donald Trump is expected to appoint Indiana Governor Mike Pence as his vice-presidential running mate in the November election, according to breaking news reports.

Wednesday evening, Trump said on Twitter that he would officially announce his running mate at a press conference Friday at 11 a.m. The annoument was to be made ahead of the Republican National Convention, which starts Monday.

The New York Times reports that Trump’s advisors have informed national Republican Party officials that Pence will be nominated. The paper quoted anonymous sources with knowledge of the conversation but who were not authorized to discuss them. The Trump campaign has not confirmed the rumours that have just started circulating among media outlets.

Pence has been a favorite vice president pick in the last few weeks, joining Trump at a rally in Indiana and after sever private meetings together. 

According to the New York Times, Pence, 57, is seen as a cautious choice who has had a long political career and may help to shore up support among conservative voters who have been reluctant to support the vocal businesses man.

“For Mr. Trump, selecting Mr. Pence would be a sharp departure from habit, and the surest sign yet that he intends to submit to at least some standard political pressures in the general election,” the newspaper said.
